Facebook Cracks Top 20 Most-Valuable Brands List

Facebook may have a ways to go to catch up to Apple as the world's most valuable company, but it is making progress as being perceived as the most-valuable brand with a worth of $33.2 billion, according to one researcher.
The social networking giant cracked the top 20 of Millward Brown's BrandZ most valuable brands list for the first time. Facebook weighed in at number 19, between Amazon (18) and Deutsche Telekom (20). Leading the list once again is Apple, followed by IBM and Google. (For the full list, click here.)

Millward Brown's list takes into account consumers' perception of brands plus "rigorous analysis of financial data, market valuations, analyst reports and risk profiles," according to the company. For whatever reason, Millward Brown's valuations are greatly at odds with Wall Street's. For instance, the BrandZ list pegs Apple's value at $182.9 billion while the company's market cap is about $525 billion. Likewise, even taking Facebook's post-IPO slide into consideration, Facebook's Wall Street valuation is about $69 billion, more than double the value that Millward Brown assigns it.
The brand ranking also contrasts with the other major best brands list, Interbrand's Top 100 Brands list. On that ranking, Apple was number eight and Coca-Cola took the top spot. Facebook didn't make the list.
