$19,000 electric Quadrofoil is a sports car for the water

What's the next best thing for those of us who can't afford a $190,000 hovercraft? Who knows. But if you have at least 10% of that figure, you could get yourself a Quadrofoil — an electric vehicle that looks like a crab. This two-seater hydrofoil was created by Slovenian designers who tout it as a sports car for the water.
The carbon fiber boat can run at speeds of up to 25 mph, with its rechargeable lithium batteries giving it a rather limited range of 62 miles. It does, however, come with detachable flexible solar panels that can be used to charge the batteries in case of emergencies. Just like any other hydrofoil, the Quadrofoil has legs that lift its body above the water; the only waves the passengers of the boat will ever feel are those that go above 20 inches.
Production of the Quadrofoil started only recently, and a mere 100 units will be finished by the end 2012. Each Quadrofoil costs roughly $19,000, and anybody who's interested in getting one of the first 100 units has to deposit around $6,400. The designers hope to raise funds to ramp up production to 10,000 units in 2013, and to entice dealers from around the world to start selling their curious-looking watercraft.
